Not at all. Most of our riders have never been on an eFoil before. Your instructor will guide you step-by-step, starting with basic board control and progressing from kneeling to standing and, when you’re ready, flying above the water.
eFoiling is easier to learn than it may look. The board is powered by an electric motor, so you don’t need waves or wind. We start slowly and build your skills progressively. Everyone learns at a different pace, but most riders are surprised by how quickly they become comfortable and start experiencing the feeling of foiling.
eFoiling is suitable for many teens and adults, typically 14 years and up who are comfortable in the water and able to follow the instructor’s directions. Younger riders may be accommodated depending on their size, swimming ability, and experience. Contact us before booking if you have questions about a younger participant.
Rider size can affect which equipment and conditions are appropriate. Typically anyone 220 lbs or lighter does just fine. If you have concerns about whether the equipment will work well for you, contact us before booking and we’ll help determine whether the experience is a good fit.
Yes. You should be comfortable in the water and able to swim independently. Falling into the water is a normal part of learning to eFoil, and while we provide a PFD and safety equipment, participants should have basic swimming ability and feel comfortable being in open water.
Bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, water, and clothing appropriate for the day’s conditions. We recommend arriving ready to get wet. We’ll let you know before your lesson if there is anything additional you should bring.
Yes. We provide the eFoil, safety equipment, and all of the gear needed for your lesson. Your experience also includes one-on-one instruction, a safety briefing, and on-water coaching.

Yes. Our Two-Person eFoil Experience is $450 total, or $225 per person. You’ll share the lesson experience while receiving individual instruction and riding time. Each participant must complete their own liability waiver before getting on the water.
When booking, you’ll select your preferred lesson location from our available Greater Portland and Sebago Lakes area locations. Because conditions vary by location, the final meeting location may be adjusted based on weather, wind, tides, and rider ability. We’ll confirm the exact location and meeting instructions before your lesson.
Lesson bookings are generally rescheduled rather than cancelled. Because eFoiling is weather dependent, AFLOAT may change the location, date, or time when necessary to provide safe and appropriate conditions. If you need to change your booking, contact us as soon as possible and we’ll work with you to find another available time. Weather-related changes made by AFLOAT do not result in the loss of your lesson.
